Become a certified Personal Support Worker (PSW), earn high school credits, and gain employment in the health care field. The PSW program is taught by Registered Nurses who are qualified teachers. It is a ten month program which runs from September to June and includes supervised clinical placements. All students must attend an Information Session before applying to the program.
Students can expect to achieve:
- PSW Certification plus six Ontario Secondary School credits
- Ontario Long Term Care Association Pin
- First Aid and CPR Certifications
- WHMIS Training, Safe Food Handling Certifications
- Registration in the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA)
Loyola, School of Adult and Continuing Education is Accredited under the PSW Educational Program Accreditation and has met all professional and educational requirements as outlined by the PSW Educational Program Accreditation Standard.

Expand your computer knowledge and employment possibilities with training in Microsoft Office Applications. Students will acquire an in-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Participants may earn up to 2 high school computer courses as well as the opportunity to write the Microsoft Office Specialist Exam. Expand your employability through a six course program that can lead to a placement in a local business. This program increases employment skills with various certifications throughout the school year. Additionally students can earn up to 22 credits for their high school transcript. Possible certifications include WHMIS, First Aid, CPR, Smart Serve, Passport to Safety, Safe Food Handling and Point of Sale training. The program is 10 months in length and broken into six courses. Learn computerized cash systems used by retail, hospitality and other service sectors. Students have the opportunity to train on state-of-the-art computerized equipment with supportive staff to assist them with their learning. Knowledge of cash register procedures such as opening and closing the register, using a touch screen, ringing in merchandise, and cash, cheque and credit card transactions are some of the topics covered.
